Last year we made the decision to build our own infrastructure to sync and store your data securely. For several months we’ve been hard at work putting these foundations in place alongside planning and developing the next major release of Momento. This continues to be our main focus.

Here’s some answers to the most frequently asked questions we’ve received recently.

“Why don’t you just use existing sync services like Dropbox or iCloud?”
We’ve considered and tested other ‘sync’ services but found that none are suitable for the job. Some simply aren’t designed or built for syncing app data and others come with limitations which restrict our ongoing and future development. When it comes to handling your precious data we want complete control over the process to ensure its security, reliability and compatiblility with our ongoing developments. We decided to build something to our exact requirements rather than spending our time changing Momento to accommodate existing services, and in doing so building ourselves in to a corner. A big task, but one we believe will make Momento better and ready for the future.

“Where is Momento iPad?”
Momento for iPad, which we’ve spent a lot of time working on, is something we really want to get in your hands as soon as possible. Before we can release Momento for iPad, or any other platform or device, we first have to complete the foundations which will allow Momento to sync data between your devices. Once this is done getting Momento out on new platforms will be one of our top priorities.

“When will you be releasing the next big update?”
We can’t say unfortunately. Our internal deadlines and estimations are subject to change and can be disrupted by many things, most often technical roadblocks. For this reason we do not speculate possible release dates or time periods. Development is going really well but we still have a lot to get done. We’re a small team with a big vision working really hard to bring you a high quality product which we believe is the best way to record your life. We’re very conscious of how long development takes but rest assured it’s coming and it will be released when it’s ready.

“Where can I get the latest info on your development?”

Development Update

For those of you seeking out an update on our developments, you will be pleased to know that Momento v3 is progressing well. There’s still a few technical hurdles to overcome which are taking longer than expected but things are really taking shape. We can’t wait to get this in your hands! As soon as we have some more news, we’ll let you know.

A new lick of pixel paint

We were planning to save this until Momento 3, but decided to unleash our new app icon early. It’s an small enhancement which many may not have noticed. We’ve been careful not to detract from our original brand but just improve to what we feel better represents Momento.

We have improved the day view making it easier to read by clearing a few visual elements and opening up some spacing so you can focus on the content. There’s also been some minor enhancements to the icons and graphics throughout the application to give it a more polished look, especially on retina displays.

Tidier tags

If you’ve noticed a typo in a tag, found tags which are too similar or had a friend change their name, you will be pleased to know your tags can be corrected. Momento now allows you to edit, merge and delete tags so you can at last have a tidy up!

Improved places

We have improved places so they now consist of a name and full address. This will allow you to put in more accurate information which paves the way for some enhancements we’ll be implementing in the near future. In addition we have changed the browsing of place tags to speed up locating a tag quickly. You are now presented with a complete list of places from which you can quickly jump to and select.

Facebook check-ins

A much requested feed is now available. Facebook check-ins are a great way to record where you are and who you are with.
