What’s new?

See a little more of your past with Momento 2.3.8 which takes advantage of the iPhone 5′s beautiful 4″ display. We’ve optimised Momento for iOS 6 and improved support for hardware keyboards, dictation and extended Chinese keyboards. Now when connecting an external keyboard you’ll have a full screen writing experience!

With the passing of Gowalla and the re-imagining of Digg we’ve brought support for these feeds to an end. If you’ve added these feeds in the past they will be now disconnected, but don’t worry, all you historic data will remain untouched and still a part of your past. We hope to provide support for the new Digg in the future if and when an API is made available.

Unfortunately we’ve had to end support for iOS 4.2 and below with this update. This will end support for the original iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPod touch 1G and iPod touch 2G. We’ve tried our best to support the old OS’ and devices but in order for us support the iPhone 5 and future generations we’ve had to make this change. For users running Momento on these devices new updates will no longer be available. We recommend that you ensure a copy of Momento is stored in iTunes to ensure you can reinstall Momento if required in the future. For any questions regarding this change please feel free to contact us.

In addition to these changes there’s been some minor bug fixes and updates as well as some pixel polishing.

Development Update

We may have been quiet but we haven’t been slacking. Alongside our work on Momento for iPad and our cloud sync solution, we have also been working on a secret little something extra. Unfortunately we can’t disclose what that is but it may explain why things have taken a little longer than expected. Once we have some real news we’ll be sure to let you know!

Last year we made the decision to build our own infrastructure to sync and store your data securely. For several months we’ve been hard at work putting these foundations in place alongside planning and developing the next major release of Momento. This continues to be our main focus.

Here’s some answers to the most frequently asked questions we’ve received recently.

“Why don’t you just use existing sync services like Dropbox or iCloud?”
We’ve considered and tested other ‘sync’ services but found that none are suitable for the job. Some simply aren’t designed or built for syncing app data and others come with limitations which restrict our ongoing and future development. When it comes to handling your precious data we want complete control over the process to ensure its security, reliability and compatiblility with our ongoing developments. We decided to build something to our exact requirements rather than spending our time changing Momento to accommodate existing services, and in doing so building ourselves in to a corner. A big task, but one we believe will make Momento better and ready for the future.

“Where is Momento iPad?”
Momento for iPad, which we’ve spent a lot of time working on, is something we really want to get in your hands as soon as possible. Before we can release Momento for iPad, or any other platform or device, we first have to complete the foundations which will allow Momento to sync data between your devices. Once this is done getting Momento out on new platforms will be one of our top priorities.

“When will you be releasing the next big update?”
We can’t say unfortunately. Our internal deadlines and estimations are subject to change and can be disrupted by many things, most often technical roadblocks. For this reason we do not speculate possible release dates or time periods. Development is going really well but we still have a lot to get done. We’re a small team with a big vision working really hard to bring you a high quality product which we believe is the best way to record your life. We’re very conscious of how long development takes but rest assured it’s coming and it will be released when it’s ready.
